Černý Petr from Terezín and Drawings by Petr Haimann
event type: exhibition
místo: Café of the Institut Memory of Nation Brno

Černý Petr – an incomplete pack of cards that little Petr Haimann brought home from the Terezín ghetto and kept in a drawer for eighty long years. These cards became the subject of an art competition for children and youth from the entire Czech Republic. Their task was to complete the missing card and thus symbolically imitate the Terezin children escaping through the game from the joyless reality of the ghetto.

Thanks to the detailed elaboration of the topic of cultural and artistic events in Terezín, during the preparations it became clear that the author of the original cards is apparently not as anonymous as we thought.

In addition to the winning competition works of today's children, the exhibition presents the early drawings of Petr Haimann from Terezín, photographs, documents and other reminders of his stay there, as well as selection of his later work.

The exhibition can be visited during the opening hours of the café (Tue-Fri 12-10 pm, Sat-Sun 10-7 pm) until 31 October 2024.
