What did the medieval shtetl look like, where the former great synagogues used to stand and why don't we actually have historical Jewish monuments in Brno? The Brno branch of the Jewish Museum in Prague, together with the Jewish Culture Centre ŠTETL, has prepared a screening and lecture that will take place right in the former heart of medieval activity, in today's Roman Square. The lecturer Barbora Dočkalová will present the history of the Brno Jewish community from its beginnings to the twentieth century, while researcher Michal Doležel will talk about the fate of the Bloch family.
Next to the Löw-Beers, the Blochs were undoubtedly one of the most frequent owners of real estate in Hlinky. The Brno entrepreneurial family purposely sought a residence near the factory complex, which had been located on Rybářská Street since 1867.
The lecture starts at 21:00 and 22:00.
