The exhibition at the Mini Gallery of the Brno University of Technology's Faculty of Architecture presents the rediscovered Jewish architect István Sajó, a native of Debrecen, who is interesting not only for his art deco style realisations, but also for his turbulent life story. After graduating from the Technical University of Budapest, István Sajó worked for several years in Dortmund and later in Miami and New York. He returned to Debrecen in 1928 and began designing tenement houses and villas in the city centre. He and his family were deported in 1945, but miraculously they all returned from the concentration camp. After the Second World War he designed the headquarters of the local hospital and clinic, but also the special concrete shell structure of the Debrecen railway station.
