The set of paintings presented in this exhibition by Josefina Puah Klimentová, a recent graduate of the School of Applied Arts in Prague, is inspired by the holidays on which Jewish families gather to eat together. A private world unfolds before the visitor on the canvases, which, while determined by the course of the Jewish year, remains comprehensible to every viewer, as the values the artist presents to our attention are universal. It is about family reciprocity, which takes on many other meanings in the context of Jewish historical experience but remains an important message even for viewers of other religions. It is about tradition and experience, passed on between generations, about the relationship between parent and child, where motherhood is the main focus of the author's interest (from the beginning of her work). Josefína Puah Klimentová approaches these themes with a directness of artistic expression and with an admirably unrelenting personal commitment, presenting motifs that would have been perceived as narrowly feminine in the patriarchal environment that the art world was until recently, as socially relevant as any other topic.
You can visit the exhibition during the opening hours of the Arnold Villa (Tue-Sun 10am-6pm) until 31 October 2024.
