Trailer

The documentary Disaster Is My Muse explores the life and work of Art Spiegelman – the comic artist born in Stockholm in 1948, raised in Queens, New York, who revolutionized the world of comics by tackling dark and complex themes. Spiegelman’s most famous work, MAUS, shaped by the experiences and trauma of his parents, Holocaust survivors, and inspired by the irreverent satire of MAD magazine, is a moving intergenerational story about the Holocaust that redefined the entire medium – and became the first comic ever to receive the Pulitzer Prize.

The film captures Spiegelman’s resistance to fascism, showcases the wide range of his comic creations, and highlights the breadth of his influence as an artist and cultural critic.

The program is organized in cooperation with the Bubny Memory of Nations Centre, the International Comics Festival KOMA, and the ŠTETL Center for Jewish Culture.
