Norway During the War – Lecture by Norwegian Historian Bjarte Bruland

Following the Nazi occupation of Norway in 1940, the collaborationist movement led by Vidkun Quisling played a key role in the country’s new regime. For the Norwegian Jewish community, the occupation marked a tragic turning point. In his lecture, historian Bjarte Bruland will explore the gradual radicalization of anti-Jewish policies that led to the deportations of 1942 and 1943. He will focus on the political context, mechanisms of persecution, and the fate of the deported within the broader framework of the Holocaust in Europe.

Bjarte Bruland is the author of a major monograph on the Holocaust in Norway, former academic director of the Jewish Museum in Oslo, and a member of the governmental commission investigating the confiscation of Jewish property. He is currently a research fellow at the Norwegian Parliament and a regular contributor to both academic and public media.
